Lucknow, 11 July (HS): Under the leadership of Chief

Minister Yogi Adityanath, to realize the resolve to make Uttar Pradesh green,

clean, and environmentally prosperous, 20 lakh saplings will be planted by the

Higher Education Department in the Tree Plantation Maha Abhiyan-2026 to be held

on July 12. To make this green Maha Abhiyan of the Yogi government a success,

Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay held a review meeting and gave

necessary guidelines to the Vice Chancellors and officials of the universities.

Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay, who held a

video conference in Agra, stated that the Yogi government is not limited to

planting trees alone, but also places equal importance on the conservation and

long-term promotion of plants. He stated that the department will ensure the

participation of approximately 5 million students, 24 state universities, 56

private universities, and approximately 8,000 colleges in this campaign. This

campaign is also inspired by the Prime Minister's One Tree for

Mother campaign. Students should be encouraged to plant and care for

trees in their educational institutions as well as around their homes, so that

environmental protection can become a mass movement.

The Higher Education Minister directed that medicinal, shady

and fruit-bearing plants should be planted in universities and colleges, which

are useful for environmental protection as well as for society. He said that in

universities and colleges where boundary walls are not available, natural green

boundaries should be developed by planting trees on the campus boundaries. At

the same time, in campuses where sufficient space is available, dense green

gardens should be developed using the Miyawaki method, so that more greenery

can be developed in less space.

Instructions were given at the meeting that geo-tagging of

all plants must be mandatory, and that tree guards, regular irrigation, and

other necessary arrangements be ensured for their protection. Each nodal

officer and teacher will also take personal responsibility for planting at

least one tree and protecting it. Each institution will ensure regular care of

the plants.

Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyaya said that under

the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh is setting an

example for the country in the field of environmental protection. This mega

campaign is not just a tree-planting program, but a pledge to provide a safe,

clean, and green environment for future generations. He called on all

vice-chancellors, principals, teachers, and students to actively contribute to

the greening of the state by making this campaign a celebration of public

participation.
