Guwahati, 11 July (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday extended warm greetings to the people of the state, particularly the Tiwa community, on the occasion of the traditional Wanchuwa Festival.

Describing Wanchuwa as a unique symbol of Assam's diverse folk culture, the Chief Minister said the festival celebrates agricultural life, social unity and collective harmony. He noted that the age-old traditions associated with the festival, including community participation, the ritual of Pithaguri Khunda and deep-rooted spiritual beliefs, reflect the distinct cultural identity of the Tiwa community.

Sarma reiterated that preserving and promoting the languages, traditions and cultural heritage of every indigenous community in Assam remains a key priority of his government. He added that through the Indigenous and Tribal Faith and Culture Department, the state government is making sustained efforts to safeguard and promote the rich cultural legacy of Assam.

The Chief Minister wished the Tiwa community peace, prosperity and happiness on the auspicious occasion of Wanchuwa Festival.----------
