New Delhi, 11 July (H.S.): The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has fixed the maximum retail prices (MRPs) of 39 medicines used in the treatment of various diseases, including hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular ailments. The decision has been taken under the provisions of the Drugs (Prices Control) Order (DPCO), 2013.
According to an NPPA notification, these medicines cannot be sold at prices exceeding the prescribed maximum retail price. The authority said the objective is to ensure that essential medicines remain affordable for patients while reducing the financial burden of treatment. The list includes several pharmaceutical formulations used to treat hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, cholesterol-related disorders, and other common health conditions. The revised prices came into effect immediately upon the issuance of the notification.
The retail price of the Amlodipine and Telmisartan tablet has been fixed at Rs 14.74 per tablet. The price of Nepafenac Ophthalmic Solution, used after eye surgery and for the treatment of bacterial infections, has been fixed at Rs 68.64 per millilitre. Meanwhile, the price of a medicine administered to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke has been fixed at Rs 6.37 per capsule. The list also includes price ceilings for several fixed-dose combination medicines used in the treatment of diabetes.
The NPPA has once again clarified that it is mandatory for all retailers and dealers to prominently display the price list issued by manufacturers at their outlets. Referring to Paragraph 24(4) of the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013, the authority said every retailer and dealer must display the price list and supplementary price list in a conspicuous place within the shop so that customers can easily view and access the information.
