
Bhubaneswar, 07 June (H.S.): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds across several parts of Odisha on June 8, issuing orange and yellow weather alerts for multiple districts.
According to the IMD’s bulletin, isolated places over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Koraput, and Malkangiri are likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 50–60 kmph. An orange warning has been issued for these districts, indicating the possibility of severe weather conditions.
A yellow warning has also been issued for several other districts, including Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, and Nayagarh. These areas are likely to witness thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds ranging between 40–50 kmph, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours.
In addition to storm activity, the weather department has warned of warm night conditions in isolated areas of Boudh, Bolangir, and Kalahandi districts. Hot and humid conditions are expected to persist across several coastal and interior regions, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagarh, Boudh, Bolangir, and Kalahandi.
The IMD has advised residents to exercise caution, particularly during outdoor activities, and to adhere to safety guidelines issued during thunderstorm conditions. Officials have also indicated that similar weather patterns may continue in parts of the state over the next 24 hours.
