Kolkata, 07 June (H.S.) : Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Madan Mitra faced a tense situation in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district on Saturday night after his vehicle was allegedly vandalised during a protest in Kamrahati. The MLA claimed that he narrowly escaped a life-threatening attack and described the incident as one in which he “saw death very closely.”

According to reports, the incident took place in Ward No. 14 of Kamrahati Municipality, where Mitra had gone to meet local councillor Arindam Biswas after receiving information about unrest in the area. However, upon his arrival, he was confronted by a group of protesters.

Mitra alleged that around 100 to 150 people surrounded his vehicle, carried sticks, and behaved aggressively. Protesters reportedly raised slogans against him and threw eggs at his car, causing damage. He also alleged that his driver was assaulted during the incident.

The MLA further claimed that some local women later helped him take shelter inside a house in darkness, which he said saved his life. He stated that the situation remained tense for nearly an hour in the area.

A video of the incident has surfaced on social media, showing alleged vandalism of the vehicle and eggs being thrown. However, the authenticity of the footage has not been independently verified.

In a Facebook Live statement, Mitra alleged that the attackers were linked to BJP-supported “anti-social elements” and claimed that slogans of “Jai Shri Ram” were raised during the attack, along with threats directed at him. He said the situation could have turned fatal had local residents and councillor Arindam Biswas not intervened.

Reports suggest that protests had already been underway since Saturday evening outside the residence of councillor Arindam Biswas, allegedly over accusations of cut-money practices. It was following these developments that Madan Mitra visited the area, leading to the confrontation.
