Parliamentary Elections to Take Place in Armenia on Sunday

MOSCOW, June 7 (HS/RIA Novosti) - Parliamentary elections will take place in Armenia on Sunday, the country's citizens will elect a new parliament for a five-year term.

Seventeen parties and two political alliances were greenlighted to participate in the parliamentary elections, including the ruling Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's Civil Contract party, opposition businessman Samvel Karapetyan's Strong Armenia party, former President Robert Kocharyan's Armenia alliance, as well as the Prosperous Armenia party of businessman Gagik Tsarukyan.

The Pashinyan government advocates for a peace treaty with Azerbaijan, including possible constitutional changes to remove territorial claims, and for European integration without rushing to apply for EU membership, while the opposition advocates for strengthening ties with Russia and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), criticizing the European integration course as a risk of worsening relations with Moscow — Armenia's historical ally and main economic partner.

Overall, according to various polls, no political force in Armenia enjoys the trust of more than 50% of the population.
