Lakhimpur (Assam), 07 June (HS): Lakhimpur Police have arrested Hasmat Ali, who is accused of allegedly concealing his identity and promising marriage to a Hindu woman under the name “Sumit Kumar.”

According to police sources, Hasmat Ali was apprehended after an operation carried out by the district police last night. During the course of his custody, he allegedly attempted to flee by jumping from a police vehicle.

Officials said the accused sustained an injury to his left leg while trying to escape. He was subsequently secured by police personnel and provided medical attention.

Police are investigating allegations that the accused used a false Hindu identity to establish a relationship with the woman and allegedly lured her with a promise of marriage. Further investigation into the case is underway.-----------
