Kolkata, 07 June (H.S.) : A crucial meeting of all Trinamool Congress (TMC) councillors in Kolkata, scheduled for Sunday, has been postponed due to party supremo Mamata Banerjee’s preoccupation and her planned visit to Delhi.
The meeting was originally set to be held at 4 pm at the Trinamool Bhavan in the Bypass area and was expected to include all councillors of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC). However, the programme had to be cancelled at the last moment as Mamata Banerjee is expected to travel to Delhi on Sunday.
According to party sources, the meeting had been convened to discuss the political situation within the municipal body, especially following the resignation of Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim. The leadership vacuum and the future administrative structure of the civic body were expected to be key agenda points.
Sources further indicated that Mamata Banerjee is likely to attend a meeting of opposition parties’ alliance in Delhi on Monday, which made her participation in the councillors’ meeting unlikely, leading to its postponement.
The meeting was also expected to address the issue of new leadership within the Kolkata Municipal Corporation and the overall strategy moving forward. However, with the postponement, decisions on these matters have been put on hold for now.
Party insiders noted that there had already been uncertainty surrounding the meeting, with reports of dissatisfaction and absence among several councillors in recent days. Mamata Banerjee’s unavailability has further added to the uncertainty within the party’s municipal ranks.
