Kolkata, 04 June (H.S.) :

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed grief over the reported suicide of a NEET aspirant and launched a sharp attack on the Central Government and the country’s examination system, calling the incident a reflection of systemic failure and uncertainty in education.

In a post on social media platform X on Thursday, Banerjee extended condolences to the bereaved family, stating that the country has lost a talented young student who had several dreams for the future. She said that while one dream has ended, the pain suffered by the family will continue to resonate for a long time.

Criticising the prevailing examination framework, the Chief Minister said the incident was not an isolated case. She alleged that repeated instances of paper leaks, irregularities, and administrative failures are severely impacting students’ futures. According to her, merit is being compromised and the hopes of young aspirants are turning into despair.

Banerjee further targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Central Government, describing its governance as “inhumane” and alleging that it has left the country’s youth feeling increasingly disillusioned and betrayed.

She also shared a news report along with her post, which referred to the alleged suicide of a NEET candidate who was reportedly unable to cope with the pressure of retaking the examination.
