Kolkata, 04 June (H.S.) :

Krishna Chakrabarty, the Mayor of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation, has resigned from her post, citing personal reasons. On Thursday afternoon, she submitted her resignation letter to the Municipal Commissioner. According to official sources, copies of the letter were also forwarded to senior officials in the state’s Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Department.

Following her resignation, Chakrabarty stated that the decision was taken due to personal reasons and clarified that she would continue to remain active in politics. She also confirmed that she will continue to discharge her responsibilities as a councillor.

Sources indicated that her resignation could have implications for the administrative structure and political equations within the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation. Her current tenure had approximately eight months remaining. She had served as Mayor for two terms, first from 2015 to 2022 and then from 2022 to 2026.

The development comes shortly after Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim also stepped down from his post, signalling notable changes in leadership within major municipal bodies in the region.

These developments are being closely watched as they may influence the functioning and political dynamics of key urban local bodies in and around Kolkata.
