Kolkata, 04 June (H.S.) :
An FIR has been registered against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over allegations of making objectionable and provocative remarks concerning the Union Home Ministry. According to police sources, the case was lodged at the Siliguri Cyber Crime Police Station based on a complaint filed by an advocate.
The complainant, advocate Rinki Sen Chatterjee, alleged that Banerjee made certain statements during a protest rally held on June 2 at Rani Rashmoni Road in Kolkata. The remarks, according to the complaint, indirectly questioned the role of the Union Home Ministry and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The complaint is linked to the alleged killing of a Bangladeshi national, Usman Hadi. It states that Hadi was killed in Bangladesh in December last year, and the accused reportedly entered West Bengal via the Meghalaya border in January before being arrested by the state Special Task Force.
The complainant further argued that while Banerjee was in office as Chief Minister, she could have raised the issue directly with the Union Home Ministry, instead of making public statements that could potentially strain diplomatic relations between India and Bangladesh.
It has also been claimed that such remarks may raise concerns regarding the safety of Hindus in Bangladesh. The complainant alleged that Banerjee hinted at a larger conspiracy and indirectly pointed towards the role of the Union Home Ministry in the incident.
During her June 2 address, Mamata Banerjee had stated that the Special Task Force arrested an accused who had entered from Bangladesh, which subsequently led to protests there. She further remarked that such individuals enter West Bengal through the Meghalaya route and are later apprehended by authorities.
