
Cachar (Assam), 04 June (HS): Assam Police's ongoing anti-narcotics drive has yielded major success in Cachar district, where six drug peddlers, including three women, were arrested in separate operations and narcotic substances worth approximately ₹4.5 crore were seized.
According to Cachar District Police, acting on specific intelligence under Udharbond Police Station, police intercepted an Intra B-10 truck (AS-11DC-8629) and recovered 8,010 bottles of codeine cough syrup (100 ml each) along with 150 packets of Tramadol tablets, amounting to a total of 36,000 tablets. The driver, identified as Gyasuddin Laskar, was arrested in connection with the case.
In another operation conducted under Kalain Police Station at Digorkhal, police intercepted a truck (AS-01EC-2533) heading towards Kalain and recovered 170 grams of suspected heroin concealed in 14 soap cases. One accused, identified as Azad Uddin, was arrested.
Meanwhile, under Silchar Police Station, police arrested a petty drug peddler, Azim Uddin Laskar alias ‘Kala’, near Fatak Bazar. During the operation, 35 vials containing approximately 1.7 grams of suspected heroin were recovered from his possession.
In a separate raid near Silchar Railway Station, police apprehended a woman identified as Gul Nihar Begum Laskar and seized 298 grams of suspected heroin concealed in 15 soap cases from her possession.
Further, acting on secret information under Sonai Police Station, police arrested two women, Rashmina Begum (31) and Mumtaz Begum Choudhury (37), from Sonai Bazar. Both are residents of Makhan Nagar Basti under Jirighat Police Station. During the search, police recovered 11 soap cases containing 122 grams of suspected heroin.
The seized narcotics and the arrested accused have been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway. -----------
