Bhubaneswar, 04 June (H.S.): Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday inaugurated the newly constructed state-of-the-art Talabania Police Station in Puri and dedicated police infrastructure projects worth approximately ₹195 crore across the state. The Chief Minister said the government remains committed to strengthening law and order, modernizing the police force, and enhancing public safety through improved infrastructure.

As part of the inauguration ceremony, Majhi virtually inaugurated the SDPO Office at Balugaon in Khordha district, the Brahmabarada Police Station in Jajpur, and the administrative building and armoury of the 3rd Battalion in Koraput. He also dedicated 658 police residential quarters of various categories in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Jajpur.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister emphasized that a strong law-and-order system and a fear-free environment are the foundation of any progressive and prosperous society. He reiterated the government's vision of transforming Odisha into one of the country's most peaceful and developed states through the modernization and empowerment of the police force.

Highlighting the welfare of police personnel, Majhi said the government is prioritizing the resolution of housing-related issues to ensure officers and staff can perform their duties in a stress-free environment. He noted that several initiatives have been launched to improve residential facilities for police personnel across the state.

The new infrastructure will enhance the efficiency of police personnel and enable them to provide faster, more transparent, and citizen-friendly services, he said, praising the dedication and commitment of the police force.

The Chief Minister also issued a clear message to police officers, urging them to remain approachable and compassionate toward citizens while maintaining a tough stance against criminals. A just society is one where the guilty are punished and innocent people can live without fear, he said.

Majhi stressed the importance of building trust between the police and the public, stating that creating a safe and crime-free society is a shared responsibility that requires active participation from all stakeholders.

Referring to emerging security challenges, he said cybercrime and organized crime have become major concerns globally and called for greater adoption of technology and modern investigative tools to effectively tackle such threats. He expressed confidence that Odisha Police is well-equipped to meet these challenges.

The Chief Minister also lauded the force's achievements in combating Left-Wing Extremism, maintaining public order, and curbing narcotics trafficking. He noted that Odisha's conviction rate had risen to 87.6 percent by December 2025 following the implementation of the new criminal laws, describing it as a significant achievement.

The newly inaugurated police stations are equipped with modern public-friendly facilities, including ramps for persons with disabilities, barracks, conference halls, witness and interrogation rooms, wireless communication centers, dedicated reception areas, women and child support centres, and round-the-clock CCTV surveillance systems.

Speaking on the occasion, Puri MP Sambit Patra said police stations, like hospitals, are places where people seek help during difficult times. He urged police personnel to handle public grievances with empathy and ensure timely justice.

Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania praised the Chief Minister's vision and leadership, stating that the newly developed infrastructure reflects the state's commitment to police reforms. He expressed confidence that the facilities would help deliver more efficient, transparent, and quality policing services to citizens.

Several dignitaries attended the event, including Puri MLA Sunil Mohanty, Satyabadi MLA Om Prakash Mishra, Brahmagiri MLA Upasana Mohapatra, Additional DGP Soumendra Priyadarshi, Puri Collector Divyajyoti Parida, Superintendent of Police Prateek Singh, and other senior officials and public representatives.
