Kokrajhar (Assam), 04 June (HS): In a significant austerity measure, the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) government has decided to reduce the salaries of Members of the Council Legislative Assembly (MCLAs) and Executive Members by 30%.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Executive Council and will remain in effect for the next six months. BTC Chief Executive Member Hagrama Mohilary stated last night that the move is aimed at curbing government expenditure during the prevailing global uncertainties arising from the war-like situation in the Middle East.
According to Mohilary, the salary reduction reflects the council's commitment to financial prudence and responsible governance during a period of economic concern. He emphasized that the temporary measure has been introduced to ensure better management of resources and maintain fiscal discipline.
The BTC administration has termed the decision an emergency cost-cutting step and indicated that the situation will be reviewed after the six-month period.-----------
