Kolkata, 04 June (H.S.): The Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh (ABRSM), a teachers' organization affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has intensified its organizational expansion in West Bengal following the change in the state's political leadership. The organization claims that its membership has witnessed significant growth after the BJP came to power in the state, and it has now set a target of enrolling nearly 150,000 members during the 2026-27 session.
According to ABRSM leaders, the organization's presence is steadily increasing across schools, colleges, and universities in the state. However, amid the growing enthusiasm for membership, the leadership has adopted a cautious approach. The organization has made it clear that teachers who played active leadership roles under the previous Trinamool Congress regime will not be accommodated. At the same time, teachers and non-teaching staff who were previously associated with Left or Trinamool-backed organizations, or were compelled to remain affiliated with them, will be welcomed.
ABRSM's State General Secretary for School Education, Bapi Pramanik, said the organization is India's largest non-political nationalist teachers' body. He noted that ABRSM has been active in West Bengal since 1992, working towards nation-building through quality education, promoting Indian cultural values, and addressing the concerns and demands of teachers and educational staff.
Pramanik stated that the organization's membership in the state stood at around 10,000 last year. However, within just three days of schools reopening after the summer vacation, the membership count surged to nearly 40,000. He expressed confidence that the organization would achieve its target of 150,000 members by the end of the current year.
Speaking on Thursday, Pramanik said ABRSM's mission extends beyond safeguarding the interests of teachers and educational employees. The organization also seeks to bring transformative changes to the education sector through the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. According to him, eliminating political interference, corruption, appeasement, and discrimination from the education system remains one of the organization's key priorities.
ABRSM claims to have a presence in 28 states and more than 100 universities across India. The organization says its nationwide membership currently stands at around 1.5 million. Its leaders believe that amid West Bengal's changing political landscape, the organization's influence and acceptance within the academic community are growing rapidly.
