Guwahati, 30 June (HS): Guwahati Police have recovered 37 kilograms of gold biscuits valued at around ₹52 crore during a major operation in Kharghuli of the city, leading to the arrest of a young man from Maharashtra.
Acting on specific inputs, police intercepted the consignment and seized the concealed gold biscuits in what is being described as one of the biggest recent recoveries in the region. The accused was taken into custody from the spot.
Preliminary investigations suggest the seizure could be linked to an organised smuggling syndicate. Police are probing the suspected hawala network and supply chain behind the illegal transportation of the precious metal. Further investigation is underway to identify other persons involved in the racket.-----------
