
Tinsukia (Assam), 27 June (HS): Assam Police arrested two suspected cadres of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) during a late-evening operation at Jagun in Tinsukia district on Friday. The arrested militants have been identified by their aliases, Sion Asom and Manoj Asom.
According to police, the duo allegedly entered Assam from Myanmar via Jairampur in Arunachal Pradesh and were travelling in a Swift car (AR-20A-5892) when they were intercepted at Jagun Bazaar. Acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding their movement, security personnel laid a trap and successfully apprehended both suspects.
During the operation, police recovered two AK-56 assault rifles, six magazines, grenades and a large quantity of live ammunition from their possession. The seized weapons and explosives have been taken into custody as part of the investigation.
The arrested ULFA-I cadres have been brought to Tinsukia for further interrogation. Police said intensive interrogation is underway at Tinsukia Police Station to ascertain their network and the purpose of transporting the arms. ----------
