Hailakandi (Assam), 27 June (HS): A devastating road accident at the Hailakandi By-pass in Assam claimed one life and left three others critically injured after an autorickshaw and a speeding truck collided head-on on Saturday.

According to preliminary reports, the truck reportedly crashed into the autorickshaw while travelling along the bypass, triggering a powerful impact that completely mangled the three-wheeler. One passenger killed at the scene, while three other occupants sustained grievous injuries.

Hearing the impact, local residents rushed to the accident site and along with police and emergency responders, rescued the injured victims. The three injured persons were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where they are undergoing emergency treatment.

The identities of the deceased and the injured were yet to be officially confirmed at the time of filing this report. Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. There was no immediate confirmation on whether the truck driver had been detained.

The latest tragedy comes amid growing concerns over a series of serious highway accidents in Hailakandi district. Only days earlier, a major head-on collision involving an ambulance and a traveller vehicle was reported in the Thandapur area under Panchgram Police Station. Authorities have once again appealed to motorists to adhere to speed limits and exercise greater caution while travelling on state highways and bypass roads.----------
