Kochi, 27 June (H.S.):

The Indian Navy, in coordination with the Kerala Police, has arrested a man for allegedly impersonating a serving Naval Commander and cheating job aspirants by promising them employment in the Navy in return for money.

The accused, identified as Bimal S. Namboothiri, a native of Palarivattom in Kochi, was arrested on Thursday following a coordinated operation launched by the Indian Navy based on specific intelligence inputs about his activities.

According to an official statement, the Navy had been monitoring the suspect after receiving credible information that he was posing as a serving officer and fraudulently offering recruitment into the force. Acting on the intelligence, the Navy worked closely with the Kerala Police to trace and apprehend the accused.

The Indian Navy reiterated that recruitment to the service is conducted only through a transparent and merit-based selection process. It emphasised that no intermediaries, agents or unauthorised individuals are involved at any stage of recruitment and cautioned the public against falling prey to fraudsters claiming to secure jobs in exchange for money.

The Navy clarified that all recruitment notifications are issued only through its official recruitment portal and other authorised government channels. It urged candidates and the public to verify all recruitment-related information exclusively through the official website, www.joinindiannavy.gov.in, before acting on any employment offer.

The statement also appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant against recruitment scams. Anyone who is approached with an offer of employment in the Indian Navy in return for money has been advised to immediately report the matter to the nearest police station or inform the Indian Navy authorities.

The arrest is part of the Navy's continuing efforts to crack down on recruitment fraud and protect aspiring candidates from being exploited by individuals falsely claiming to represent the armed forces.
