Scheme will not
be closed: CM Fadnavis
Mumbai, 02 May
(HS): As many as 80 lakh ineligible women, who had derived benefits from the ‘Ladki
Bahin’ scheme have been removed from the list of beneficiaries. Chief Minister
Devendra Fadnavis said that over 10,000 of them were government employees, many
others owned four-wheelers and several others did not complete the KYC (Know
Your Customer) formalities.
Replying to criticism
by the Opposition, Fadnavis said that many women who were not eligible for
under the scheme had applied and derived benefits for several months. Upon
verification they were removed from the list of eligible beneficiaries.
The criticism by
the Opposition is baseless as those women who were removed are not at all
eligible under the scheme. Suitable action will be initiated, including
recovery of money paid, from government employees who took benefit under the
scheme, Fadnavis said and added that the ‘Ladki Bahin’ scheme will not be
closed.
