Kamrup Assam), 19 June (HS): Three youths belonging to the same family were killed in a tragic road accident in Rangia under Kamrup (Rural) district of Assam on Thursday night. All three victims killed on the spot following a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a Bolero pickup vehicle.

According to police sources, the accident occurred when the speeding motorcycle carrying two youths and a minor collided with a speeding DI pickup van on the Rangia-Nagrijuli road.

The deceased have been identified as Zubair Hussain, Nazrul Sultan and Sultan Ali. Zubair Hussain and Nazrul Sultan were brothers and students of Class X and Class VIII respectively at Devalkuchi High School. Sultan Ali, the third victim, was a relative of the two brothers.

Reports said the trio had visited a relative’s house in Yusuf Nagar to convey wedding-related news and were returning to their home at Khandikar when the fatal accident took place a short distance before reaching their destination.

Police personnel rushed to the spot soon after the incident and launched an investigation. The driver and handyman of the pickup vehicle were arrested the same night. The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination, and a case has been registered.

The tragic deaths have cast a pall of gloom over the locality, while further investigation into the incident is underway.
