
Lakhimpur (Assam), 16 June (HS): A shocking incident of alleged public humiliation and assault of a woman has come to light from Chauldhowa in Assam's Lakhimpur district. The victim was reportedly stripped and assaulted on a public road in the presence of her husband, triggering widespread outrage in the area.
According to reports, the incident occurred at Konanadi village and was allegedly linked to a dispute over the construction of a traditional stilt house (chang ghar) on government land. During the altercation, a group of individuals allegedly attacked the woman and subjected her to public humiliation.
Police launched an investigation soon after the incident surfaced and arrested one accused, identified as Harakanta Chayengia, in connection with the case. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend others allegedly involved in the assault.
Authorities have assured strict action against those responsible, while the incident has drawn strong condemnation from local residents and civil society groups.----------
