Bhubaneswar, 16 June (H.S.): Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati on Tuesday launched a coffee table book on former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu and lauded his visionary leadership and enduring contributions to nation-building, describing him as a statesman whose legacy transcends the positions he held.

Speaking at the coffee table book launch ceremony in Bhubaneswar, the Governor said that while some leaders are remembered for the offices they occupied, a select few are remembered for the ideas they championed and the values they embodied. “Suresh Prabhu belongs firmly to the latter category,” he said.

Congratulating editor Sabyasachee Dash for compiling the publication, Dr. Kambhampati said the coffee table book chronicles Prabhu’s journey in public life and highlights his contributions to policy-making and governance across diverse sectors. Describing the volume as more than a collection of photographs and memories, he said it stands as a tribute to a life dedicated to public service and national development.

Recalling his long association with Prabhu since 2002, the Governor referred to his role as Chairman of the Task Force on Interlinking of Rivers constituted by the NDA government under former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He noted that the initiative laid the foundation for the ambitious river-linking programme aimed at addressing water management challenges across the country.

The Governor highlighted Prabhu’s 26-year parliamentary career and his stewardship of key ministries, including Power, Railways, Commerce and Industry, and Civil Aviation. He said several transformative reforms introduced during Prabhu’s tenure as Railway Minister enhanced transparency, improved efficiency and strengthened passenger services through greater use of technology.

Dr. Kambhampati also highlighted Prabhu’s contributions to energy policy, international trade and global diplomacy, including his role as India’s Sherpa to the G20 and G7. He said Prabhu’s public life exemplifies integrity, innovation and an unwavering commitment to the national interest.

Expressing confidence that the coffee table book would inspire future generations, the Governor said it documents the achievements, vision and values of a leader who has made significant contributions to India’s development journey.

Addressing the gathering, Suresh Prabhu thanked Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati for attending the event. Recalling his long association with the Governor, he appreciated Odisha’s development trajectory and said the state possesses abundant natural resources and immense potential for growth.

Former State Information Commissioner Jagadananda and Chairman of the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Odisha Chapter, Rajib Sahoo, also spoke on the occasion. Editor of the coffee table book, Sabyasachee Dash, delivered the welcome address.
