
Washington, 16 June (HS): Eight people were reported killed after a US Air Force B-52 Stratofortress bomber crashed shortly after takeoff in California on Monday, according to media reports.
The aircraft was reportedly on a routine test mission from Edwards Air Force Base when the accident occurred. The incident was reported at around 11:20 a.m. local time.
According to reports, the bomber crashed and caught fire shortly after takeoff. Officials at the base were quoted as saying there was little hope of survivors.
The crew reportedly included military personnel, government employees and contractors. Authorities said the identities of those on board would be released after their families are notified.
Boeing said two of its employees were among those killed in the crash and expressed condolences to their families.
Officials said an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the accident. Operations at the airfield have been affected and incoming flights were being diverted, according to reports.
