Bhubaneswar, 16 June (H.S.): The Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati Smriti Nyas has urged the Odisha government to trace the missing inquiry commission report related to the murder of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati within a stipulated timeframe and ensure that all those responsible for the crime are brought to justice.

A delegation of the Nyas met Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on June 14 and submitted a memorandum expressing concern over reports that the inquiry commission report pertaining to the murder of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati and the subsequent communal violence has gone missing.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Nyas President Swami Jivanmuktananda Puri and trustee Rupendra Kahar said the issue has triggered widespread concern across Odisha. They noted that recent media reports and public discussions regarding the disappearance of the long-awaited inquiry report have led to growing dissatisfaction and suspicion among citizens.

The delegation emphasized that the matter is deeply connected to the sentiments of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati’s followers and the wider public, making a transparent, impartial and time-bound investigation essential.

The Nyas urged the Chief Minister to ensure that the missing report is located at the earliest and that stringent action is taken against any officials or individuals found responsible for negligence in its handling. It further demanded that all persons involved in the conspiracy behind the murder of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati be identified and punished in accordance with the law.

The organization stated that Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati’s contributions towards the welfare of tribal communities and the preservation of Hindu cultural values continue to be widely acknowledged. It also noted that he remained a vocal opponent of what he described as illegal religious conversions throughout his life.

Highlighting that 2026 marks the birth centenary year of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati, who was born in present-day Angul district of Odisha in 1926, the Nyas said a series of commemorative programmes are planned throughout the year to honour his legacy. However, it expressed deep disappointment over reports concerning the disappearance of the judicial commission report investigating his murder.

The Nyas also called for the public release of the interim report submitted by Justice Sarat Chandra Mahapatra and the report of the commission headed by Justice Basudev Panigrahi. According to the organization, making these reports public would enable citizens to understand the findings of the investigations and help dispel longstanding doubts and controversies surrounding the case.

The Nyas maintained that transparency in the matter would strengthen public confidence in the justice delivery system and ensure accountability in one of Odisha’s most significant and sensitive cases.
