Lucknow, 16 June
(HS): In a determined campaign against the BJP ahead of the critical 2027 Uttar
Pradesh Assembly elections, AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi declared his
openness to join partnerships with other opposition organizations. Speaking in
Uttar Pradesh, Owaisi recognized prior election defeats but emphasized a
revived grassroots drive to gain political traction.
Owaisi said that AIMIM's election attempts in 2017 were unsuccessful, citing
earlier mistakes that are now being aggressively corrected. As preparations
continue, state leader Shaukat Ali spearheads attempts to deploy the party's
campaign machinery. Owaisi publicly declared his willingness to join an
anti-BJP alliance to minimize opposition vote fragmentation, refuting claims
that AIMIM separates secular voters.
With internal
tensions high due to defections in the Rajya Sabha elections, Owaisi chastised
mainstream opposition groups for rejecting previous partnership proposals.
Concurrently, Congress leader Imran Masood downplayed the notion of forming a
coalition with AIMIM, emphasizing the importance of unified resistance to
communalism. Masood stressed Congress's autonomy in candidate selection,
implying strategic independence ahead of the elections.
