Amritsar, 10 June (H.S.): Amritsar Rural Police and the Border Security Force (BSF)
recovered approximately 3.05 kilograms of heroin during a special
anti-narcotics operation in the border area. The seized contraband is estimated
to be worth several crores of rupees in the international market.
According to official sources, the joint
operation was launched after receiving information about suspicious activities
near the border. A search operation conducted by the Gharinda Police Station
team and BSF personnel led to the recovery of three packets. Two of the packets
contained heroin, while the third reportedly contained another narcotic
substance.
The total weight of the recovered drugs was
around 3.05 kilograms. Preliminary investigations suggest that the consignment
was intended to be smuggled into Punjab from across the international border.
However, due to the alertness and timely action of the security agencies, the
large drug consignment was intercepted before it could reach its intended
destination.
Officials believe the seizure has dealt a
significant blow to an international drug smuggling network operating along the
border. Investigating agencies are now working to identify the individuals
involved in the trafficking operation and determine who was supposed to receive
the consignment.
The Amritsar Rural Police stated that the
campaign against drug traffickers will continue with full intensity and that
every possible effort is being made to make Punjab drug-free. Police officials
described the recovery as a major achievement in the ongoing fight against
narcotics and border-related crimes.
Authorities
have launched a detailed investigation into the case, and further revelations
regarding the smuggling network are expected in the coming days.
