Lucknow,
25 May (HS): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath urged the state tax
department on Monday to improve revenue collection while also providing
amenities, respect, and prompt grievance redressal to honest businesses. The
chief minister stated that the work of the state tax department was critical in
reaching the state's goal of becoming a USD 1 trillion economy, emphasizing the
need of a governance model based on both revenue augmentation and trust. According
to an official statement, Adityanath was chairing a review meeting with senior
officials from the State Tax Department's headquarters and field units. He
directed authorities to make the tax system more easy, digital, and
responsible, and he stated that excessive delays in operations such as GST
registration, return filing, appeal disposition, and refunds should be removed.
The
chief minister also advocated for ongoing trade engagement, small company
awareness programs, and taxpayer aid measures at the district and block levels.
He believes that technology and data analytics should be utilized to reduce tax
avoidance while also promoting legal economic activity. Officials told the
gathering that Uttar Pradesh earned a total income of Rs 1,15,977 crore under
GST and VAT in fiscal year 2025-26, accounting for about 98.8 percent of the
revised forecast. Uttar Pradesh has the second highest GST receipts in the
country, trailing only Maharashtra and ahead of Karnataka. Adityanath requested
that merchant outreach initiatives be increased even more. Officials stated
that similar workshops involving administrative officers and traders have been
held in all 75 districts, with an emphasis on GST registration, return filing,
and GST 2.0 changes.
Traders
received training on how to file taxes, and Vyapar Bandhu seminars
were organized throughout the districts. The state tax administration has also
developed a strategy to launch block-level outreach programs in June 2026. The
gathering was also informed that talks had taken place with various business
sectors, trade groups, and bar associations at the state level. Coordination
has been improved with departments such as CGST, DGGI, and Railways. In light
of global conditions, outreach programs were also implemented with bullion
merchants at both the state and district levels.
