Bhubaneswar, 25 May (H.S.): Senior IPS officer Dayal Gangwar was transferred and posted as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Home Department on Monday, amid the ongoing Crime Branch investigation into the death of Balianta resident Soumya Ranjan Swain.
The transfer comes as allegations raised by Soumya’s family continue to draw attention. According to family members, Soumya had been working under Gangwar and was allegedly subjected to harassment during his tenure.
Speaking to the media, Soumya’s father alleged that his son had resigned from the job around a month before his death due to the treatment he received. He claimed that Soumya was allegedly made to perform personal tasks, including giving massages to the senior officer and his son, and purchasing protein supplements costing around ₹12,000.
“He worked under ADG Dayal Gangwar, who harassed him. My son left the job nearly a month ago. He was allegedly asked to massage the officer for hours every day and was also made to massage his son. He was further asked to buy protein supplements worth ₹12,000,” Soumya’s father alleged.
Meanwhile, Soumya’s mother, Kabita Swain, expressed dissatisfaction over the pace of the investigation and voiced concerns about whether action would be taken against the officer.
“I do not think any action will be taken against him because he has connections everywhere. I am a poor woman and have very limited means to fight for justice,” she said.
The Crime Branch is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding Soumya Ranjan Swain’s death. Authorities have not yet made any official statement regarding the allegations levelled against Gangwar.
