West Bengal, 20 May (H.S.): Suvendu Adhikari arrived in Siliguri on Wednesday as part of his significant North Bengal tour aimed at accelerating regional development and strengthening the administrative system in the region.

The Chief Minister reached Bagdogra Airport by air from Kolkata in the afternoon, where he received a grand and ceremonial welcome. The visit is being seen as politically and administratively important, as it marks his first tour of North Bengal after assuming office as Chief Minister.

Union Minister for North Bengal Development Nisith Pramanik and Darjeeling MP Raju Bista were among the dignitaries present at the airport to receive him. A large number of party workers and supporters also gathered at the venue. The airport premises echoed with slogans and cheers as the Chief Minister arrived. He was welcomed with bouquets and traditional ceremonial scarves.

Speaking to reporters at the airport, Suvendu Adhikari delivered a strong message on law and order in the state. He said the government would not tolerate hooliganism, extortion or any attempts to disrupt law and order.

“There will be rule of law in the state. Those who are still relying on the old system should understand that things will no longer function that way. The law will take its own course,” he said.

The Chief Minister further stated that he would visit North Bengal every month “to work, not to tour.”

He also indicated that speeding up development projects related to tea garden regions, the tourism industry and several stalled infrastructure initiatives in North Bengal would remain key priorities of the visit.

After interacting with the media, the Chief Minister left for the party and administrative office at Mallaguri in Siliguri under tight security arrangements. Enthusiastic crowds gathered along the route to catch a glimpse of him.

According to administrative sources, the Chief Minister is scheduled to hold multiple meetings with district magistrates, superintendents of police and senior officials from various North Bengal districts later in the day. The discussions are expected to focus on resolving long-pending issues and accelerating developmental projects across the region.
