New Delhi, 20 May (H.S.): Under the leadership of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal, a “work-from-home” arrangement was adopted on Wednesday. Chahal stated that all heads of departments and officials of NDMC participated in a review meeting on preparations for the upcoming India-Africa Summit while working from their respective homes.

Chairing the meeting via video conferencing from his residence, Chahal conducted a detailed review of preparations being undertaken by various departments. The meeting discussed in detail the proposed works and arrangements to be carried out during the summit period.

Chahal said that from May 28 to June 1, night-time cleaning and sanitation arrangements within the NDMC area will be further strengthened. He added that special deployment of sanitation workers and supervisory staff will be ensured on major roads, VIP and VVIP routes, and key markets.

He further stated that zonal in-charges will continuously monitor night sanitation operations. During the summit period, all field staff have been instructed to remain on duty, and leave will be restricted except in emergency situations. He also directed all officials and employees to ensure discipline and accountability.

Chahal noted that nearly 50 per cent of the NDMC area comprises green cover, making the role of the horticulture department even more significant. He said that during the summit, attractive floral arrangements in pots will be installed in markets, entry gates, and key locations. He added that beautification and maintenance work, including hedge trimming, tree pruning, and cleaning of green areas, will be carried out extensively.

He also informed that special warm lighting arrangements will be installed at 13 major roundabouts identified by the Director (Horticulture).

He said that decorative lighting will also be installed on trees around approximately 10 hotels where foreign delegates are expected to stay. He added that an online circle-wise monitoring system has been developed to ensure real-time monitoring and prompt action across all works.

Chahal said that all necessary arrangements will be made during the summit to maintain the beauty and organised appearance of Delhi.

He further stated that a 24×7 control room will be operational to ensure smooth functioning of the sewerage system during the summit period. He also said that no road cutting will be permitted during this time.

He informed that special displays will be installed at various locations during the India-Africa Summit. Creative content received from the Ministry of External Affairs will be displayed from today across approximately 50 LED sites and around 100 PTU and CTU display units to effectively showcase the theme of the summit and India’s cultural image.

He added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is establishing a strong global identity, and such major international events highlight the country’s culture, hospitality, cleanliness, and administrative efficiency before the world.

Chahal said that as NDMC is a key face of the national capital, all departments have been instructed to ensure that all works related to sanitation, beautification, lighting, green management, traffic management, and civic amenities are completed in a high-quality and time-bound manner.
