Siliguri, 20 May (H.S.): Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party government in West Bengal would fulfil all promises made to the people within a year. During his first visit to North Bengal after becoming Chief Minister, Adhikari also announced that the region would receive top priority in the government’s development agenda.
The Chief Minister made the remarks while interacting with BJP leaders and workers at the party office in Siliguri ahead of an administrative review meeting at Uttarkanya.
Highlighting the BJP’s electoral success in North Bengal in recent elections, Adhikari said the region remained a stronghold of the party. “Whatever commitments we made in our manifesto will be fulfilled within a definite timeframe. People have already started receiving some benefits, and more initiatives will begin from June onward. Within the next three months, six months, and one year, we will honour all promises made to the people,” he said.
Stressing the importance of North Bengal in the BJP’s political landscape, the Chief Minister stated, “North Bengal is the BJP’s strong base. Therefore, this government’s developmental activities will give special priority to the region.”
Adhikari further announced that he would visit North Bengal again in July and urged BJP workers to prepare and document development proposals for the state government before his next visit. He assured that proposals found feasible by the administration would be implemented promptly.
Addressing party workers, the Chief Minister said suggestions for governance and public welfare could be forwarded to district BJP presidents through WhatsApp, along with contact details, after which the proposals would be sent directly to him.
Adhikari also asserted that anti-national activities would not be tolerated under his government and promised a “complete systemic transformation” in the state. “We do not want merely a change of flags, parties, roads, or individuals. We want a change in the system itself. In the past two weeks, many systemic changes have already begun. We want an end to cut-money culture, syndicate raj, and mafia activities. That is the dream for the future,” he said.
During his speech at the BJP office in Siliguri, the Chief Minister also targeted the previous All India Trinamool Congress government, accusing it of creating divisions among communities, particularly in the hill regions of the state.
He, however, assured that the new BJP government would work to fulfil the aspirations of the common people and bring comprehensive development across West Bengal.
