
Guwahati, 20 May (HS): The Amrit Bharat Express trains operating from various stations in Assam and West Bengal under the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) have emerged as a major success, earning widespread appreciation from passengers and recording impressive occupancy and revenue figures since their launch in January 2026.
According to NFR CPRO Kapinjal Kishor Sharma, the modern and affordable train services connecting key stations such as Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Alipurduar Junction and New Jalpaiguri with major cities across India have witnessed exceptional passenger demand. Several trains reported occupancy levels exceeding 100%, reflecting the growing popularity and increasing preference among travellers for the Amrit Bharat Express services.
At present, seven pairs of Amrit Bharat Express trains are originating from Assam and West Bengal under the NFR zone. These include services operating between Kamakhya and Rohtak, Dibrugarh and Gomti Nagar, Alipurduar Junction and SMVT Bengaluru, Alipurduar Junction and Panvel, Kamakhya and Charlapalli, New Jalpaiguri and Tiruchchirappalli, as well as New Jalpaiguri and Nagercoil. Railway officials stated that these trains are significantly improving connectivity between the Northeast and other parts of the country.
Among the best-performing services, the Kamakhya–Rohtak Amrit Bharat Express recorded occupancy levels of up to 136%, while the Dibrugarh–Gomti Nagar service crossed 140% occupancy on multiple occasions. Altogether, the trains have transported more than 1.78 lakh passengers and generated revenue exceeding %23 crore, highlighting the commercial and operational success of the initiative.
Designed primarily for common passengers, the Amrit Bharat Express trains offer modern interiors, improved amenities, spacious seating arrangements and economical fares. NFR stated that the services are not only enhancing passenger convenience but are also contributing to tourism, regional development and economic integration by strengthening rail connectivity between the Northeast and the rest of India.
Northeast Frontier Railway reiterated its commitment to improving passenger amenities and ensuring safe, efficient and passenger-centric rail services. Officials described the success of the Amrit Bharat Express trains as a reflection of Indian Railways’ broader vision of inclusive growth, modernization and accessible transportation for all sections of society.-----------
