Siliguri, 20 May (H.S.) : West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday announced that legislators from all political parties would henceforth be invited to every administrative meeting of the state government to ensure better coordination and effective implementation of development schemes.
Addressing an administrative review meeting at Uttarkanya, the branch secretariat for North Bengal in Siliguri, the Chief Minister said participation of all public representatives was essential for transparent governance and proper execution of welfare programmes.
“Every administrative meeting will now include MLAs from all political parties, irrespective of their affiliations. Not only MLAs, but MPs sharing similar developmental priorities should also be invited. This will strengthen transparency and coordination in administrative functioning,” Adhikari said.
The meeting was attended by Assembly Speaker Rathindra Bose, Panchayat Minister Dilip Ghosh, North Bengal Development Minister Nisith Pramanik, Chief Secretary Manoj Agarwal, Darjeeling MP Raju Bista, BJP leader Manoj Tigga, Director General of Police Siddhinath Gupta, and several BJP MLAs from North Bengal.
The Chief Minister said the initiative had been taken to ensure that government welfare schemes reached people more effectively through greater coordination between elected representatives and the administration.
During the meeting, discussions were also held on the overall administrative situation in the state, the progress of ongoing development projects, and the impact of the global petroleum crisis.
Adhikari alleged that under the previous government, MLAs and MPs were not given adequate importance in administrative meetings. He said close coordination between public representatives and the administration was now necessary for accelerating development activities across the state.
