Lucknow,

02 May (HS): In Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, the national president

of the Rashtriya Shoshit Samaj Party, Swami Prasad Maurya, held a press

conference in Gomti Nagar on Saturday, raising serious questions about the law

and order situation in Uttar Pradesh. Swami Prasad Maurya, who has been in the

news for his sharp statements, accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)

government in the state of conducting police actions based on caste.

Addressing

journalists, Swami Prasad Maurya said that Dalits and backward classes are

being killed in encounters in Uttar Pradesh, while criminals are being

protected based on caste. He said that backward classes are being subjected to

either half or full encounters. He warned of a protest against the government

on May 4 if law and order is not improved and action is not taken against those

accused in recent crimes against women. Referring

to the incidents in Hardoi and Ghazipur, Maurya claimed jungle raj

prevailed in the state and said the rule of law had ended. He described the

incidents in those districts as gross negligence on the part of the police.

He

said that the murder of a girl with a shovel in Mallawan, Hardoi, was the

result of police negligence. He also accused the police of not arresting the

criminals in the case of rape and murder of a girl in Ghazipur. Similarly, an

incident of gang rape of a girl has come to light in Pratapgarh. Expressing

displeasure over the action taken against Dalits and backward classes in Kanpur

and Moradabad, he said that the police are taking action on caste basis. He

said that these incidents are contrary to the government's claims of law and

order and zero tolerance policy in the state.

Swami

Prasad Maurya condemned the police for filing a case against party workers who

had gone to meet the victim's family. He warned that if law and order did not

improve and action was not taken against the accused in the Ghazipur case, they

would launch a protest on May 4th.
