Imphal, 02 May (HS): Manipur Police cracked down on the illegal movement of fuel consignments towards the border town of Moreh, seizing multiple vehicles and arresting five drivers during operations carried out in last 24 hours.

According to officials, a Bolero pick-up truck was intercepted on May 1 during routine checking. The vehicle, which was on its way to Moreh, was found carrying eleven containers filled with suspected petroleum and diesel products. The driver, identified as Md. Hashan (51) from Irengband under Kakching district, was taken into custody.

In an earlier operation, police stopped four additional vehicles transporting a combined total of 25 containers containing similar fuel products. The intercepted vehicles included a Tata Magic and three Eeco vans, driven by Elvis Lamkang (23) of Chandel district, Md. Abas Khan (47) of Thoubal district, Dangsawa Koshil Pipachum (56) of Chandel district, and Md. Mujibur Rahaman (35) of Kakching district.

All five drivers have been arrested in connection with the case, while the seized vehicles along with the fuel containers have been handed over for legal action.

Police officials stated that further investigation is in progress to trace the origin of the fuel and identify the network involved in its intended distribution.------------
