Guwahati, 19 May (HS): In a major development amid growing concerns over women trafficking and abduction cases in Assam, Jorshimuli Police in South Kamrup apprehended an alleged woman kidnapper from Batahidia Char under Chamaria on Tuesday.

The accused has been identified as Jiyaur Rahman, a resident of Mahimari village. Police sources said he was arrested following a search operation carried out in the char area after specific inputs.

Officials informed today that a case had already been registered against the accused at Chhaygaon Police Station in connection with a woman abduction incident. The arrest is being viewed as part of intensified efforts by Assam Police to crack down on organised trafficking and kidnapping networks operating across several districts of the state.

The incident has once again triggered concern over the increasing number of women trafficking and abduction cases reported from different parts of Assam in recent months. Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain whether the accused had links with a larger trafficking racket.------------
