19 May (HS): Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, conveyed his
condolences on Tuesday following the death of former Uttarakhand chief minister
and senior BJP leader Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri.
Adityanath stated in a post on X that the death of former Uttarakhand
Chief Minister and prominent BJP leader Maj Gen (Retd) Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri
is deeply sad. Respectful acknowledgments. He stated that he prayed to Lord Ram
for peace to the departed soul and strength to the grieving family to endure
the loss. Khanduri, a former chief minister of Uttarakhand and a top BJP
politician, died on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at a private hospital in Dehradun after
a protracted illness. He was ninety-one. He twice served as Uttarakhand's chief
minister.
Khanduri
was initially elected chief minister of the hill state in 2007, when the BJP
took control there. However, he resigned in 2009, accepting responsibility for
the party's defeat in all five Lok Sabha seats in the state. In 2011, the BJP
again appointed him to govern the state.
Khanduri
also served as a Union minister in former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's
cabinet, where he was in charge of road transport and roads. He is largely
known with driving the enormous Golden Quadrilateral highway project, which
connects different sections of the country. Khanduri was survived by his wife
Aruna, son Manish, and daughter Ritu Khanduri Bhushan.
