Kolkata, 19 May (H.S.) : Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday launched a high-voltage campaign in Falta ahead of the Assembly by-election scheduled for May 21. Reaching the constituency around 11:45 am, he began a long road march from Kalitala ground near Hasimnagar under Bangnagar-II Panchayat, triggering intense political activity in the area.
Before starting the march, the Chief Minister offered prayers at a local temple. He later travelled in an open vehicle, greeting supporters gathered along the route. Large crowds of BJP workers and supporters lined both sides of the roads, while party flags, slogans and flower showers added to the charged political atmosphere. A heavy police deployment was made to maintain security during the programme.
Addressing a public meeting, Suvendu Adhikari made several significant political announcements. He said that one member from each of the families of 321 BJP workers allegedly killed in political violence after the 2021 Assembly elections would be provided government jobs.
The Chief Minister also announced a special economic and social rehabilitation package for BJP workers allegedly affected by political violence in the Falta and Diamond Harbour regions. The announcements are being viewed as a major political outreach initiative ahead of the crucial by-election.
