Kokrajhar (Assam), 19 May (HS): In a major anti-corruption crackdown, the Chief Minister’s Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing apprehended Parbatjhora Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Abinash Basumatary while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹2 lakh in Kokrajhar district on Tuesday.

According to sources, the anti-corruption team launched a special operation at Parbatjhora following allegations that the DFO had demanded money from a contractor for clearing pending bills. During the operation, officials caught Basumatary red-handed while allegedly receiving the bribe amount.

The vigilance team immediately detained the officer and initiated further legal procedures. Sources said the accused official is currently being interrogated to gather more details related to the bribery case and possible involvement in other irregularities.

The operation has triggered strong reactions in administrative circles, with officials stating that strict action would be taken against corruption in government departments.-----------
