Imphal, 19 May (HS): Security forces and central agencies intensified counter-insurgency operations across Manipur, leading to the arrest of several active militants affiliated with proscribed outfits including PLA, RPF/PLA, UNLF (Koireng) and KYKL from near the India-Myanmar border and different districts of the state over last 24 hours.
In one operation carried out by central forces apprehended three cadres of the PLA from the stretch between BP-77 (Border Polar-77) and BP-79 under Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal district. The arrested individuals were identified as Wangthoi Nahakpam alias Lingjel (20) from Charangpat in Thoubal district, Nanaoba Nandeibam alias Angou (19) from Kongba in Imphal East district and Malem Oinam alias Manithoiba (20) from Nambol in Bishnupur district.
In an another operation, security personnel also arrested an active cadre of the RPF/PLA identified as Chinglen Athokpam alias Ibungo (30), a resident of Pungdongbam Mayai Leikai under Lamlai Police Station in Imphal East district.
Meanwhile in an another operation, security forces conducted another operation in the Yairipok Bazar area under Yairipok Police Station in Thoubal district and arrested an active member of UNLF (Koireng). The arrested cadre, identified as Thangjam Dhamendra Singh alias Wayenba alias Volume (26) of Leirongthel Pitra, was allegedly involved in illegal trafficking and sale of arms and ammunition.
During the operation, security personnel recovered a 9 mm magazine, a mobile phone along with two SIM cards, a power bank with USB cable and an ATM card from his possession.
In a separate crackdown on May 17, two active cadres of KYKL were arrested from different locations under Lamphel Police Station in Imphal West district. The arrested persons were identified as Sorokhaibam Priyochand Singh alias Sajao (39) of Iram Siphai Mamang Leikai, who was apprehended near RIMS and Moirangthem Naobi Singh (47) of Uripok Takhellambam Leikai, who was arrested from his residence.
Security forces also seized two mobile phones and an Aadhaar card during the operation.-----------
