Hooghly, 19 May (H.S.): Around 75 riders of a private delivery company located in the Baghkhal area of Rishra have been on strike for the past three days, alleging low wages, exploitation and intimidation by the company management.

After learning about the situation, Ward No. 10 councillor of Rishra Municipality Manoj Singh visited the spot on Tuesday, interacted with the protesting riders and listened to their grievances. Later, he joined the sit-in protest in support of the riders.

The riders alleged that the company has been paying them inadequate wages despite continuously increasing their workload. They claimed that repeated complaints to the management have gone unheard. Instead, some members of the management allegedly threatened them for raising their demands.

The striking riders have also submitted a written complaint regarding the matter at Rishra Police Station.

Supporting the protesters, BJP councillor Manoj Singh said that the legitimate demands of the riders must be accepted immediately by the management. He warned that the agitation would intensify if the issues were not resolved at the earliest.

Manoj Singh also joined the dharna in solidarity with the riders and stated that the protest would continue until their demands were fulfilled.
