
Guwahati, 19 May (HS): The 14th high-level review meeting of the Brahmaputra Board was held in Guwahati on Tuesday, focusing on sustainable development and effective management of water resources in the Northeast region. The meeting was chaired in the presence of Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil and Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti Raj Bhushan Choudhary.
Ministers and senior officials from all Northeastern states participated in the meeting and shared important suggestions on key issues concerning the region’s water sector. Discussions were held on sustainable development of the Brahmaputra and Barak river basins, flood and erosion control measures, digital transformation initiatives and strengthening water resource management systems.
During the meeting, traditional water conservation systems practiced in different parts of the Northeast were also highlighted as part of efforts to promote sustainable and community-based resource management.
The participants reiterated their commitment to the integrated and sustainable development of the Northeast’s water resources under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.------------
