Cooch Behar, 19 May (H.S.): Tension spread in the Baladanga Kalirhat area under Bhetaguri No. 2 Gram Panchayat in Dinhata block after unidentified miscreants allegedly hurled a bomb at the residence of Trinamool Congress gram panchayat chief Priyanka Dey Sarkar late on Monday night.
According to local sources, the incident took place while Priyanka Dey Sarkar and her family members were asleep inside the house. Suddenly, a loud explosion shook the entire locality after miscreants targeted the residence with crude bombs. However, no injuries were reported in the incident.
On information, a team from Dinhata Police Station rushed to the spot and launched a search operation in the area. During the search, the police recovered two live bombs from near the house, which were later safely defused.
The police have started an investigation into the incident and are trying to identify those involved in the attack.
Speaking on the matter, Priyanka Dey Sarkar did not blame any political party for the incident and described it as the handiwork of anti-social elements.
Notably, Priyanka was previously associated with the BJP before later joining the All India Trinamool Congress.
