Guwahati, 19 May (HS): The Assam Cricket Association is set to introduce the Assam Premier League (APL) in August this year, with the tournament planned on the lines of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Announcing the development, BCCI secretary Devajit Lon Saikia said the APL will be organised in a format similar to the IPL, aiming to provide a major platform for budding cricketers of the state.

Saikia stated that the league is expected to boost cricket infrastructure and talent development in Assam while creating greater exposure opportunities for young players across the region.

He further expressed hope that the Assam Premier League would emerge as a significant cricketing event in the Northeast in the coming years.
