
Kolkata, 19 May (H.S.) : An accused person escaped from police custody at the Kandi court premises in Murshidabad on Tuesday, raising serious questions over security arrangements at the court complex.
The escaped accused has been identified as Faizul Sheikh, a resident of Khanderda village under the Salar police station area. According to police sources, he had been arrested a few days ago by Salar Police Station in connection with allegations of bomb attacks and illegal possession of explosives.
Police had brought the accused to the Kandi court on Tuesday for a scheduled hearing. During the court proceedings, he allegedly managed to evade the police personnel escorting him and fled from custody.
The incident triggered panic within the court premises, following which police launched a search operation in and around the area to trace the accused.
The escape of an accused from a court complex, considered a highly sensitive and secure zone, has sparked concerns regarding lapses in security arrangements. Police said efforts are underway to locate the accused and an investigation into the incident is in progress.
