Kolkata, 18 May (H.S.): Commuters faced major inconvenience on the Blue Line of Kolkata Metro on Monday morning as delays in train services disrupted office-hour travel on the first working day of the week.

According to reports, metro services remained suspended throughout Sunday on the Tollygunge–Shahid Khudiram station section due to maintenance work. On Monday morning, passengers again complained about delayed train movement on the same stretch.

Several commuters also reported minor delays in metro services running from Noapara to Shahid Khudiram. Due to the disruption during peak office hours, huge crowds gathered at different metro stations, while metro coaches witnessed severe overcrowding.

Some passengers alleged that because of the excessive crowd pressure, metro train doors were unable to close properly at several stations. However, metro sources said the disruption was caused by a minor delay in the process of reversing metro rakes at Shahid Khudiram Metro Station.

The metro administration claimed that services have now returned to normal and there is no major operational issue at present.

Despite this, commuters said even a minor delay during office hours leads to massive overcrowding at stations, leaving many passengers unable to board trains. Metro authorities, however, maintained that services are currently functioning normally.
