Kolkata, 18 May (H.S.): The police searching for Dilip Mondal, who has been accused of making threatening remarks against opposition BJP workers during the Assembly election period, have arrested five people, including his son Arghya Mondal.

According to police sources, Arghya Mondal was allegedly caught with a firearm and has also been accused of creating unrest in the area.

Sources said a joint operation was conducted on Sunday night by the State Police Special Task Force and Diamond Harbour District Police to trace the MLA’s son. During the raid, five persons, including Arghya Mondal, were arrested from the Bakkhali–Frazerganj area. Police are currently interrogating the accused to determine whether more people were involved in the case.

The controversy erupted after a video allegedly featuring MLA Dilip Mondal from Bishnupur recently went viral on social media. In the video, he was allegedly seen threatening workers and supporters of rival political parties. However, the authenticity of the video has not been independently verified. A police complaint was subsequently lodged against the MLA over the matter.

Based on the complaint, the police conducted a raid at Dilip Mondal’s residence on Thursday morning. However, the MLA was not present at the house during the operation. Central forces also accompanied the police team during the search. After several hours of operation, officials left the premises around 4 pm.

Sources said the police searched two houses owned by the MLA in the Pailan area. One of the properties reportedly spreads across a large area and includes a swimming pool, landscaped gardens and decorative statues. The residence has been described as resembling a luxury resort in terms of design and decoration.
