
Hooghly, 18 May (H.S.): The police have arrested four persons, including a Trinamool Congress leader, in connection with the alleged molestation of a woman, assault on her husband and attack on their house on the night of vote counting near Triveni Kishori Sangha Club under Magra police station area. All the accused were produced before the Chinsurah Court on Monday.
According to the complaint, the incident took place on May 4 after a family allegedly protested against the open consumption of liquor and marijuana in the area. The victim alleged that the accused forcibly entered their house, attacked the family with weapons and behaved obscenely with her. Her husband was also severely beaten during the attack.
Among those arrested is Gautam Das, also known as “Bolo,” who is said to be the secretary of the TMC labour organisation at BTPS. Police also detained Tanmay Das, Prabir Sarkar and Sujit Kundu in connection with the case. Two other accused had already been arrested earlier.
According to police sources, Gautam Das and the other accused had been absconding since the incident. They were arrested by Magra Police Station after returning to the area on Sunday night.
While being taken to court, Gautam Das denied the allegations and claimed that he was being targeted out of political vendetta. Police said the investigation into the case is ongoing.
