New Delhi, May 18 (H.S.): New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal and Manoj Tiwari, Member of Parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), travelled in an electric vehicle (EV) auto-rickshaw to reach Seva Teerth Metro Station on Monday. During the initiative, they also announced that electric vehicle users would receive a 50 percent concession on parking charges in NDMC parking facilities.
NDMC Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal boarded the electric auto from his official residence in Chanakyapuri and picked up Manoj Tiwari from Mother Teresa Crescent before proceeding towards Seva Teerth Metro Station.
During the journey, both leaders interacted with commuters at Palika Bazaar and expressed gratitude to Delhi Metro passengers who have adopted public transport as their primary mode of travel.
Speaking about the use of an EV auto to reach the metro station, Kuljeet Singh Chahal said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the slogan “Nation First, Save Fuel.” He added that, following this vision, he and Manoj Tiwari chose to carpool in an auto-rickshaw and use the metro service to travel to Connaught Place.
Chahal further said that he has been travelling by metro and auto-rickshaws for several days and therefore does not feel affected by the heat. He added that NDMC would also honor citizens who regularly use public transport.
He also informed that NDMC has launched its own shuttle bus service for commuters.
Manoj Tiwari said that the initiative aligns with the vision of the Prime Minister and is being implemented in Delhi under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
He announced that from Monday onward, users of electric vehicles would receive a 50 percent discount on parking fees in NDMC parking areas. He added that to promote the implementation of this policy, they themselves chose to travel by auto-rickshaw and metro.
The BJP MP further said that true patriotism lies in minimizing fuel consumption. He remarked that reducing the use of diesel and petrol would also help lower rising temperatures and environmental stress.
